2014 Recap

The 2014 Harvest was very successful and benefited from the sure, practiced hand of our wonderful winemaker Tom Montgomery. Extended dry weather led to a drawn out, slower ripening process and many grapes were picked later than usual. We’re looking forward to tasting them!

2014 saw the launch of our new website, a new label design, our first ever Summer Music Series and the 28th Charity Fall Music Festival. It was a busy, exciting year or firsts and we can’t wait for 2015.

This coming year our Summer Music Series will be back but with a few changes! To be held during the afternoon in our legendary amphitheater and at a more attractive price, it will be the perfect weekend activity. Our mission is to stay true to our music roots, while welcoming the next generation of great bands!

Will Dan Cohn be in your city this year? In 2014 we visited a record number of cities for wine dinners featuring exclusively B.R. Cohn. Stay tuned for the 2015 schedule!

Last year we posted some suggested New Year’s Resolutions by B.R. Cohn. Here they are again, updated for 2015!

Learn New Wine Terms: Wine tasting is way more fun when you have the vocabulary to describe everyone from taste to texture. Here are some of our favorites:

  • “Grippy” – a wine with heavy tannins that seem to “Grip” to your tongue
  • “Unctuous” – A term meaning lush and deep with an all over mouth feel. A very positive thing for most wines, especially reds.
  • “Pencil Shaving” – You’ve undoubtedly heard this thrown around a few times. Wine snobs *ahem* connoisseurs tend to either love or hate this term. Ultimately it is a useful way to describe a graphite-like aroma.
  • “Tomato Leaf” – one of the more obscure descriptors for Cabernet, used to mean a pungent, fresh, garden smell.
  • “Barnyard” – Often used for describing a smell of hay or earthiness without the “forest floor” connotation. This is a common Syrah descriptor and believe it or not, is not actually a bad thing.

13Riesling-bottleJoin the B.R. Cohn Wine Family: Get the wines you love regularly by joining one of our wine clubs! We have many options, allowing you to find the right fit for your life. Joining our family gives you exclusive invitations to events and pick-up parties and access to the Wine Club Pavilion at the Charity Fall Music Festival.

Do some cooking with B.R. Cohn Olive Oils and Vinegars: We love sharing your recipes and how you use your favorite Oils and Vinegars from B.R. Cohn, like this recipe from food blogger Amy Andrews. Send us your pictures and recipes and we’ll share them on Facebook and Twitter!

Interesting Wine Pairing of the Month

Grilled Cheese and Riesling: The heaviness of grilled cheese will pair beautifully with the light and fruity tones of a dry Riesling, especially if you’re using a cheese that has a bit more bite to it.

Do you have an interesting wine and food pairing you think we should know about? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter!
